|The Future of Food and Seed|
What should be the right dynamic between farmers and consumers in maintaining agricultural diversity, self-reliance, and food grown with locally-sourced seeds? A sixty minute video presentation by Dr. Vandana Shiva.
27th August 2009 - Vandana Shiva
Since earning her Ph.D. in quantum physics, Dr. Shiva has spent over 30 years strengthening communities around the world to achieve local food security. She pioneered the contemporary organic movement in India and established Navdanya, India’s largest network of seed keepers and organic producers. In 2003, Time magazine named her an environmental hero; Asia Week called her one of Asia’s five most powerful communicators. She has received the Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize), Order of the Golden Ark, Global 500 Award of the UN, Earth Day International Award, and the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace, among others. Her books include Soil Not Oil, Earth Democracy, Water Wars, Stolen Harvest, Biopiracy, and Staying Alive. In 'The Future of Food and Seed', Dr. Shiva discusses the dynamics between farmers and consumers in maintaining agricultural diversity, self-reliance, and food grown with locally-sourced seeds. These seeds and their growers are the most reliable resources for community food security.
