David Korten - The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community
Print E-mail

27min 39sec. David Korten, an author of the classic work 'When Corporations Rule The World' gives an enlightening presentation on humanity's shift from 'empire building' to creating a sustainable 'earth community', on the back of the release of his latest book.

27 min 39 sec, David Korten , Pepperspray Productions - 27th October 06

In the course of the presentation, Korten touches on a diverse range of interrelated issues such as peak oil, climate change, green economics and democracy.

"Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the United States, the administration in power in Washington, DC invaded Afghanistan, began a campaign to build support for an invasion of Iraq, and spoke openly of a U.S. policy of using the full power of U.S. military forces to impose imperial order on the world. These actions made overt a larger imperial agenda and triggered recognition of the extent to which contemporary relationships between people and nations are shaped by the same dominator patterns that became established with the rise of the first empires in the Tigris Euphrates and Nile river valleys some 5,000 years ago."

"I decided I must write a book that would reveal the nature and implications of this connection. The result is The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community, which places the step we humans must now take to a new level of species maturity and a creative balance with one another and the Earth in the larger context of the overall sweep of the human experience. It will be released in May 2006. The Great Turning link will take you to information on the book, its message, and plans for using its launch to advance Earth Community Dialogues aimed at changing the conversation about our local, national, and global possibilities."
