Webinar: Sharing as a Solution to Global Crises
Print E-mail

In a webinar scheduled for 18th February 2013 at 19.30 (GMT), STWR will present their ideas on how policies based on the principle of sharing can help address the immediate crises facing humanity, as well as guide – given sufficient public support – the many structural reforms to the global economy that must follow.

In an upcoming webinar hosted by GlobalNet21, Share The World's Resources (STWR) will outline why the principle of sharing - as practiced in families and communities since the dawn of civilisation - should also inform polices that seek to address the social, environmental and security crises humanity now faces. Drawing on their recent report entitled ‘Financing the global sharing economy', STWR will discuss how governments could mobilise trillions of dollars that can be used to prevent life-threatening deprivation, reduce the human impacts of climate change, and reverse harsh policies of economic austerity.

But creating a more equitable, sustainable and peaceful world will also require substantial reforms to the world economy based on the principle of sharing, such as new forms of trusteeship over the global commons. STWR will outline what these reforms might entail and why it is essential to mobilise public opinion on an international scale to overcome the powerful vested interests that prevent progressive change from taking place. Could the increasing focus on sharing hold the potential to unite the world's environmental, peace and justice movements under a universal call for world repair and renewal?

The webinar will be presented with PowerPoint slides by STWR's director, Rajesh Makwana, and STWR's editor Adam Parsons on Monday 18th February 2013 at 7.30 pm GMT. Anyone interested in listening to or participating in the presentation can register via GlobalNet21's Meetup page.
